OUR EVOLUTION
Since 2010, Folk Media Peru has been dedicated to sharing Latin American folklore through meaningful community outreach. From its earliest days, the organization has focused on serving vulnerable and underserved populations, using culture, music, and dance as powerful tools for connection, healing, and social transformation.

As our passion for Latin American heritage continued to grow, so did our presence in major cultural events. One of our most important artistic pillars is the Marinera, Peru’s national dance and a UNESCO-recognized Intangible Cultural Heritage. Through performances, workshops, and festivals, we have brought the grace, history, and spirit of the Marinera to audiences across the United States and beyond.

In 2014, in collaboration with the Peruvian Consulate and other cultural institutions, we screened Dreams of Glory, the first feature film dedicated to the Marinera. This event helped introduce Peruvian culture to a broader international audience and led to the creation of a Marinera competition in Austin—an event that has since grown into a cherished local tradition.
In June 2023, Folk Media Peru was officially recognized by the State of Texas as a nonprofit organization, marking an important milestone in our journey. This designation strengthened our capacity to expand programming, deepen partnerships, and increase our impact across the community.
Today, our work continues to center on education, cultural preservation, and artistic expression. Through performances, classes, workshops, and community events, we strive to enrich the lives of children, youth, and adults throughout Texas. We aim to be a leading force in the promotion of cultural heritage—both locally and internationally—celebrating diversity and fostering inclusion at every step.
Folk Media Peru remains a beacon of culture and unity. With every program we offer and every life we touch, we reaffirm our commitment to empowering communities, honoring tradition, and shaping a more inclusive and culturally rich future.
OUR MISSION
To preserve and celebrate Peruvian artistic heritage while uplifting Austin’s minority communities by creating inclusive spaces where tradition and contemporary expression meet. Through performances, traveling exhibitions, educational programs, and support for artists, we foster cultural pride, strengthen community connections, and expand access to creative opportunities for underrepresented voices. Our mission is to enrich Austin’s cultural life by empowering diverse communities through the transformative power of art, heritage, and education.

OUR VISION
To become a leading cultural force in Austin and beyond, recognized nationally and internationally for promoting and preserving Peruvian artistic heritage while uplifting minority and underrepresented communities. We envision a city where diverse cultural identities are celebrated, heritage is honored, and art and creativity thrive as powerful tools for unity, representation, and social transformation.
